Today's mission was to learn through recorded webinars via the web. Let me just speak to that for a moment. When I first realized that we would be sitting at our computers listening to a recorded session I have to be honest and say I did not think that it would go well for me. I learn best through a specific learning style and I did not think this would help me get the most out of the lesson as I could. Boy, was I wrong!!! It was a very positive experience and I learned so much. I was listening, taking notes, downloading apps, trying out the apps as they were downloaded and I am sure every neuron in my brain was firing trying to think of ways to use this in class. I am not skeptical anymore. I would have no problem having many learning experiences delivered in this manner.
That is just the webinar experience alone, now I would like to chat a little about the abundance of apps I so recklessly downloaded(but my credit card company will love me for it). There were apps for early emergent readers, apps for spelling, sequencing, counting, making puzzles, a peace and calming app and even an app for grooming. The possibilities were endless. The webinars were set up so that an app was mentioned and demonstrated and if it looked worthy I would download it and categorize it on my iPhone for quick reference. I hope this method of delivery for courses will be readily available in the near future which would give us more options when we are trying to further our education or grow professionally.
I used my iPhone for many purposes today. I searched games, played games, wrote emails, listened to music, wrote a poem, sent a photo(made from one of the apps) to my daughter, who is lonely at home, used the calculator for budgeting, and check out maps as I was driving to PEI for the weekend.
My 'phone' now has been revolutionized into a hand held computer with a multitude of teaching and learning possibilities for many.
